The past decade has seen the development of the field of curatorial studies with a number of journals and books being written on this emerging area of scholarship.
In response to this increased interest the Fine Arts Library has acquired the back issues of Manifesta journal : journal of contemporary curatorship. Launched in 2003, Manifesta acts in conversation with the Manifesta European Biennial of Contemporary Art. The Journal specifically focuses on the concepts, issues, strategies and approaches surrounding curating. Articles, discussions and interviews are contributed by prominent curators, theorists and art critics including Tobias Burger (former Director of ARTSPACE), Hans Ulrich Obrist (art curator, critic and art historian and Mercedes Vincente (Curator of Contemporary Art at the Govett Brewster Gallery). Descriptions of each issue can be read here.
In other curatorial related news the Fine Arts Library has recently subscribed to the Journal of Curatorial Studies, an international, peer-reviewed publication, to be published in 2012. This quarterly journal will focus on the cultural practice of curating. Look out for this publication in the coming year.
