Inside/Outside: Leo Bensemann’s Place in New Zealand Art and Literature

This talk by Peter Simpson was originally created to accompany the exhibition Leo Bensemann: A Fantastic Art Venture curated by Simpson and Noel Waite at the currently closed Christchurch Art Gallery. Author of Fantastica : the world of Leo Bensemann, Simpson was also involved in the reprinting of Bensemann’s 1937 book Fantastica : Thirteen drawings, republished by Holloway Press and recently featured in the artist book exhibition, Components of a special collection: a collaboration with the University of Auckland Fine Arts Library at Projectspace B431.

Angels & Aristocrats

Mary Kisler, senior curator of the Mckelvie Collection and International Art at the Auckland Art Gallery discusses her new book, Angels & Aristocrats with Radio New Zealand National presenter, Kim Hill.
"Kisler’s complex and challenging project to write the first overview of country’s old master collections since 1989 has been filled with opulent portraits, luminous landscapes and resonant names like Gaspard Dughet, Tilly Kettle and Zanobi Machiavelli” (Moore, 2010).
