Police are looking at using a 50-year-old law, during the Rugby World Cup which gives Maori Wardens the power to remove drunk Maori from licensed premises.
The Maori Community Development Act 1962, allows Maori Wardens to order Maori to leave premises if they are drunk or "violent, quarrelsome, or disorderly, whether intoxicated or not".
The law is currently being reviewed by Parliament's Maori Affairs Select Committee.
See sections 30-36 for Prevention of Unruly Behaviour.
