Jury summons too late for 99 year old

Serving on a jury is an important civic duty but unfortunately for 99 year old Jim Lessels, his callup came 'a bit late'.  He was keen but had to apply for an exemption due to poor hearing and reduced mobility.

Information about jury service is available from the Ministry of Justice.

See New Zealand Court Rules here.

# re: Jury summons too late for 99 year old

I wondered if my Dad had sent a record for age for call up for Jury Service but I believe a lady aged "102" beat him to that spot and the oldest in the World appears to be a lady aged 114 in 2004.
My Dad received a confirming letter that he was exempt but 'may be called up at a future date'. It will be interesting to see if that transpires. At least it bought a smile for the day. 7/7/2011 11:04 AM | jeanette.lessels
