Goodbye floppies (hello DVDs)

As some of you have already noted, the new PCs currently installed in the Kate Edger and Grafton Information Commons no longer sport the floppy disk drives. If you still have files on floppy disks, you can borrow a portable floppy disk drive from the IC Helpdesk – but remember to bring your ID card!

On the much brighter side, the new computers can store data onto DVDs, which hold a lot more than a floppy disc and the regular writeable CDs. Note the phrase 'store data on DVDs’, not ‘go ahead and burn DVDs’. The IC computers cannot be used to copy a film on a DVD, and there is no software installed for that purpose (before you ask). When copying work other than your own, always keep in mind the University’s IT Acceptable Use Policy.

Enojoy the new computers, and remember that you can now purchase blank DVDs for $3.00 at the IC Helpdesk!
