Electromagnetic Flow Meter

“In order to investigate the characteristics of an electromagnetic flow meter in multiphase flows, the relationship between the induced electrical potential and the velocity of the conductive continuous phase was studied using FEMLAB software. This novel electromagnetic flow meter consists of electrodes in a delrin pipe, which comes in contact with the fluid media. A Helmholtz coil produces a pulsed, homogeneous magnetic field applied normal to the flow direction. The induced voltages are formed by Lorentz forces acting on moving ions in a flowing fluid media due to the external magnetic field and these voltages are amplified to achieve measurable readings.” Read the paper at http://www.hud.ac.uk/media/universityofhuddersfield/content/image/research/sce
