Matariki

It's that time of year again. Matariki celebrates the Maori New Year and traditionally was the  time of  year used to establish the planting of crops,  based on the rising of the star cluster Pleiades (Matariki)

Photo of the Pleiades star cluster reproduced with the kind permission of Don J McCrady (2006). Image can be viewed at its original source here

Hi Cappy and friends. Glad you found our blog. If you would like to find out more about Matariki you might like to try some of the links at the bottom of the post. These will give you lots more information. You’ll notice though that quite a lot of the links are for teachers. This is because we are part of the University of Auckland Library so we include material of interest to staff and students studying at the University, and especially those at the Faculty of Education which is where our library is located.

If you're still getting a bit stuck finding resources I would suggest talking to your school librarian or approaching your local Public Library. http://www.anyquestions.co.nz is also a great place to ask your school homework questions.

Good for you for checking whether it's OK to use material I've posted. I don't mind you using anything I have written but remember if you link to other people's websites from my post you should always ask their permission to use material on these pages. 6/10/2009 4:35 PM | Tricia Bingham
