OECD iLibrary: access to OECD publications, data and analysis

OECD iLibrary is the online library of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).

The database gives you access to the full text of their published books, working papers and journals, including the OECD Economic Outlook and the OECD Economic Surveys, and covers the following themes:

Agriculture and food, Development, Economics, Education, Employment, Energy and nuclear energy, Environment, Finance and investment, Governance, Industry and services, Science and technology, Social issues, Migration and health, Taxation, Trade, and Transport.

A main feature is access to OECD statistics where you can build your own tables, or view ready-made tables.

New KLD database for researching the social ratings of companies

KLD provides social research for institutional investors

This newly acquired database contains social ratings for all US companies of the 3000 largest publicly traded companies with high Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) ratings. There are over 50 ESG ratings in 7 categories: Environment, Social (including Community, Human Rights, Employee Relations, Diversity, Customers) and Governance.

In addition, the index separately includes companies with significant business activities involving alcohol, tobacco, firearms, gambling, nuclear power or military weapons. The index was launched in May 1990, and is one of the first Socially Responsible Investing (SRI) indices to market.

KLD created the Domini 400 SocialSM Index (DS 400 Index). Dates covered are 1991 – end of 2011. Companies are updated annually.

Access for postgraduates and staff only is through the Wharton Research Data Services database (WRDS) by password. Please see the instructions on the Wharton connect page.

New Accounting and Finance Database - Osiris

Detailed information on 70,000 listed, and major unlisted/delisted, companies around the world from Bureau van Dijk.

Different templates are used to show accounts in the correct formats for their company type and location. Information includes detailed current and historical financials, ratios, ownership, directors, basic M&A information. Financials are also standardized for cross border comparison between New Zealand and other countries.

Business Database workshops for March 2013

The Business & Economics Information Services team will be running generic business database workshops that will cover a number of useful databases for new students. These are bookable on the Libraries and Learning Services workshops page under the title:

Business Research Skills - Finding Quality Business Information.

Workshops begin on Thursday the 14th of March at 11am (see the Library Workshops page for the complete timetable of eight sessions)

There are also workshops that explore the statistics databases NZSTATS and OFFSTATS and students can email the statistics queries they wish to cover in the session:

Statistics and numeric data - finding those elusive numbers.

There are only two sessions for this workshop: Thursday the 14th of March at 2pm and Friday the 15th of March at 10am so booking is essential.

Finding country information

Are you looking for country information and data, country comparisons or country risk information? The Business Librarians have created a useful topic guide on Country information and how to find it.

The topic guide provides links to databases and websites that provide information and data on country profiles, economic comparisons, risk, forecasts, country updates and much more.

Included on the Country information page is a Country comparisons Library resource guide, a step-by-step guide that outlines the research process and which databases to use when undertaking economic comparisons of countries.

BUSINESSnetBASE e-book collection

The BUSINESSnetBASE e-book collection brings together material relating to business theory and practice. Subject areas include management, ethics, accounting, marketing, business information systems, and related areas from Routledge and Auerbach imprints.

To find other business e-book collections click on the Business and Economics tab on the Library's e-books webpage. E-books will also appear when you search the Library catalogue.

RefWorks - reference management tool

From 2013, RefWorks will be the primary reference management tool at the University of Auckland. It is a web-based tool that requires no upgrades, facilitates collaborative work and is available to alumni.

The Library will be running transition workshops for users changing from EndNote to RefWorks. For further information about RefWorks see the Library's page, or enrol in a workshop.

Emerging Asia database

The EMED Emerging Asia database provides economic and financial time series data for 20 Asian countries. The data includes national accounts, balance of payments, trade and investment statistics, government revenue and expenditure, interest and exchange rates as well as demographics, tourism and labour market figures.

Bangladesh, Brunei, Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Laos, Macau, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Pakistan, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam are covered in this database.
