Two of the Library’s online collections have been combined in the database ‘British Newspapers 1600-1900’.
You can search for material in the combined collections, select either the 17th-18th or the 19th Century collections, or browse through individual publication titles.
The 19th Century collections were produced in two parts, so you’ll need to select both from the menu.
- The 19th Century collection includes 70 national and regional newspapers.
- The 17th-18th Century Burney Collection includes early newspapers, newsbooks, Acts of Parliament, addresses, broadsides, pamphlets, and proclamations. It includes newspapers from England, Ireland and Scotland, and some European publications (France, Germany, Italy and the Netherlands). Colonial titles include newspapers from Bridgetown, Barbados; Kingston, Jamaica; and Madras and Calcutta in India.
Each individual publication is also listed in the Library Catalogue, so you can also look them up there and then click the link to see the online version.
