BDSL Online wird von der Universitätsbibliothek Frankfurt am Main als Schwerpunktbibliothek für Germanistik erstellt. Sie ist die wichtigste bibliographische Informationsquelle für Germanisten mit dem Schwerpunkt Literaturwissenschaft.
Geschichte der BDSL
Begründet als Spezialbibliographie der Universitätsbibliothek Frankfurt am Main erscheint die Bibliographie der deutschen Sprach- und Literaturwissenschaft (BDSL) seit 1957 im Verlag Vittorio Klostermann. Seit 2004 wird die Bibliographie neben der Buchausgabe auch online im Internet publiziert.
Das Projekt wurde vom ehemaligen Bibliotheksdirektor Hanns W. Eppelsheimer initiiert und von seinem Nachfolger Clemens Köttelwesch fortgesetzt. Die Bibliographie ist in einschlägigen wissenschaftlichen Kreisen so auch als Eppelsheimer-Köttelwesch bekannt.
Umfang der Bibliographie
Lizenzierende Institutionen erhalten Zugriff auf den Gesamtbestand ab 1985. Jährlich werden im Durchschnitt etwa 15.000 Titeleinträge aus Monographien, Sammelbänden, Zeitschriften und Zeitungen erfaßt. Rezensionen zur Primärliteratur werden ebenfalls verzeichnet. Für den Zeitraum 1985-2010 umfaßt die BDSL damit rd. 336.000 Titeldaten. Die BDSL wird von der Redaktion auf Basis der in der Bibliothek vorhandenen Literatur per Autopsie erstellt. Sie ist daher nicht nur Titelnachweis, sondern auch Bestandsnachweis der Bibliothek.

History
Established as a special bibliography of the University Library Frankfurt am Main the "Bibliographie der deutschen Sprach- und Literaturwissenschaft" (BDSL) has been published by Vittorio Klostermann Verlag since 1957 and comprises world-wide coverage of published literature on the German language, literature and general Germanic studies.
The project was initiated by former library director Hanns W. Eppelsheimer and continued by his successor Clement Köttelwesch. The bibliography is better known as Eppelsheimer-Köttelwesch.
Scope
Licensed institutions have access to all records from 1985. Each year an average of 15,000 titles entries from monographs, anthologies, magazines and newspapers are added.Reviews of primary literature are also included. From 1985 to 2010, there are 336 000 titles indexed. The BDSL is created by the editors based on existing library holdings. So it shows not only that a title exists but that it is held in the Goethe University Library, Frankfurt am Main.

The search interface is in German. There are many records in English.
