Bibliography of British and Irish History

The online Bibliography of British and Irish History will replace the Royal Historical Society Bibliography next year. The RHS Bibliography has been a free website but will only be available only by subscription from next year.

Access

We have free trial access until 15 November.

From the database trial webpage click the CONNECT (CAMPUS ONLY) button, and then Enter databases. From there, click the link to Bibliography of British and Irish History (you might then have to click IP recognition).

Content

The new database is rather different in appearance to the RHS Bibliography, but it should be familiar to those of you who use Brepolis’ International Medieval Bibliography. It will continue to cover the history of Britain and Ireland as well as Empire and Commonwealth countries.

It remains only an index, without abstracts or full text or even links to full text sources.

It does index chapters within books, which are often omitted from other databases.

The Advanced Search tab gives you several useful search parameters: Subject, place, person as subject, and period covered. Within those menus, click on the subject (rather than ticking the box) to get more specific options.
