Te Tumu Herenga support Māori Expo

Welcome, kia ora, fakalofa lahi atu, kia orana, halo olgeta, malo e lelei, ni sa bula vinaka, kam na mauri, aloha, taloha ni, talofa lava, tēnā koutou katoa.

During Māori Expo 2009, Te Tumu Herenga o Te Whare Wānanga o Tāmaki Makaurau (University of Auckland Library) participated with other Faculties and services in promoting courses and career opportunities at the University stall.  Te Āo Kohatu students (Māori Studies course) provided an extra draw card to visit the stall and take interest in what we were offering.

Library staff were able to move amongst the thousands of eager secondary, tertiary students and staff as well as parents and tamariki, asking questions for the quiz.  The questions consisted of:

  • What is the name of a Māori God
  • Who was the first Māori woman
  • What is the Māori name for land
  • What is a Pacific word for land
  • How do you say hello in Māori
  • Name a Māori author
  • Name a Māori movie director
  • Name a Māori actor/actress

It was a fantastic day with over 400 entries, the prizes were for school and individual.  The winners and prizes are:

Kamo High School
Ngā Mōteatea (four volumes and CDs)

Tarei Patuwairua, Kaitaia
Ngā Pēpeha a ngā Tīpuna

Te Rōpū Rātonga Māori me Moana-nui-ā-Kiwa would like to thank the organisers and all those that participated in Māori Expo.

He mihi nunui tēnei ki ngā rangatira mō āpōpō i whai te mātauranga, te tihi o ngā maunga tapu, te paepae tapu o tātou katoa.  No reira, tēnā koutou, tēnā koutou, tēnā tātou katoa.

Ko te pae tāwhiti, whāia kia tata
Ko te pae tata, whakamaua kia tina
