One million pages from American historical newspapers have been digitized for the Chronicling America programme. The Chronicling America website is a partnership between the Library of Congress and the National Endowment for the Humanities.
This website provides a free, searchable database of historic United States newspapers, published between 1880 and 1922.

52 images from 1909 editions of the New York Tribune's illustrated Sunday Supplement have been added to the Library Of Congress' image collection on Flickr . You do not need a Flickr account to view the images. More images will be added throughout the year.
Read the Library of Congress blog for June 12, 2009 to get more information on their plans for adding photographs from these historic newspapers to Flickr.
More information on the Chronicling America programme can be found in the Library of Congress news release for June 16, 2009.
