Miguel Syjuco wins the 2008 Man Asian Literary Prize

A panel of three internationally acclaimed authors and experienced literary judges named Filipino author Miguel Syjuco winner of the 2008 Man Asian Literary Prize for his novel Ilustrado, a fictional account of a young Filipino caught within a notorious scandal spanning over the Philippine history.

Afghan author Atiq Rahimi wins French literary prize

An exiled Afghan writer won France's top literary prize on Monday for his novel about the misery of a woman caring for a husband left brain-damaged by a war wound. Atiq Rahimi was awarded the Goncourt prize for "Syngue Sabour," Persian for "Stone of Patience," a title derived from a folk tale about a black stone that absorbs the distress of anyone who confides in it.

First World War texts at the NZETC

The 90th anniversary of the end of the First World War has been marked by the The New Zealand Electronic Text Centre by the availability online of a number texts relating to New Zealand's role in the conflict. These First World War volumes concentrate almost exclusively on the activities of the troops on the battlefields.

JSTOR Developments

JSTOR was founded in 1995 and initially had an archive of 50 journals. New content has been added constantly since then, and the collection now has more than 770 journals, with many more planned.
