The Library is trialling the Proquest Historical Newspaper full text archive for the newspapers The Guardian and The Observer.
The trial runs till 6th August 2008. Digitizing is still in progress. Upon completion in late 2008 the archive will contain The Guardian 1821-2003, and The Observer 1791-2003.
The Observer is Britain's oldest Sunday newspaper. Notable contributors include George Orwell and Conor Cruise O'Brien. As yet the Observer has not been digitized.
At the beginning of July the following years for The Guardian are available: 1931, 1941-1945, 1956-1957, 1959, 1961-1963, 1965, 1968-1969, 1971-1995, 1999-2003.
