An online version of the Australian Dictionary of Biography is now available. It is produced by the Australian National University and the Australian Science and Technology Heritage Centre at the University of Melbourne. It includes over 10,000 scholarly biographies of persons who were significant in Australian history, or who represent the diverse nature of the Australian experience to 1980. The incorporation of forthcoming volumes into the site will extend coverage until 2000.
The entries were written progressively from the early 1960s to the present. Therefore, some may not reflect the latest scholarship. Print publication details, including the year, accompany each article.
The original print edition is in the Library's Arts Reference Collection (920.094 A938)
The Dictionary of New Zealand Biography (below) has also been available online for some time, and has a more youthful portrait of James Busby.
